DEVELOPING LISTENING SKILLS IN ENGLISH: EFFECTIVE METHODS AND EXERCISES FOR STUDENTS

Abstract. Listening is an important competence in teaching a foreign language (English) today. The development of auditing skills affects not only the ability of students to perceive and use the language in communicative situations in practice. The scientific work analyzes successful methods, as well as various exercises for developing students’ auditing skills, draws attention to the variety of approaches, as well as integration for different levels of language proficiency. In the scientific work, the author examines in detail various resources, such as multimedia teaching materials or interactive modules, as well as innovative technologies with tasks that can significantly improve foreign language perception of information. The purpose of the scientific article is to analyze and present successful methods and effective exercises for developing students’ auditing skills, including analyzing the impact on the level of perception of foreign language speech by ear, as well as on the motivation of students. Research objectives: to analyze modern methods, as well as exercises for developing listening skills; to form a set of practical tasks based on current media resources; determine the effectiveness of the developed practical tasks by testing and supporting feedback from students; study the impact of communication methods on student motivation; develop practical recommendations for the teaching staff on adapting effective methods to the educational process. The materials of this study were audio podcasts in a foreign language, as well as foreign language dialogues and audio books, educational video materials in a foreign language (English with subtitles), etc. The results of the study demonstrated that students showed a significant improvement in their perception of foreign language speech after using the methods under consideration. Conclusion: successful development of children’s auditive skills in a foreign language (English) requires a systematic approach that includes various methods and educational materials.
