FEATURES OF CIVIL AND PATRIOTIC EDUCATION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN IN GEOGRAPHY LESSONS

Abstract. In the Russian Federation, the educational process is aimed at educating the younger generation of citizens of our country. This direction is reflected in the Law of the Russian Federation “On Education”, as well as in the “Strategy for the development of education in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2025”. Citizenship is a complex of such personality qualities as freedom of will, respect for the state, love for the Motherland, desire for peace, manifestation of patriotic feelings and culture of interethnic communication. Patriotism among young people presupposes knowledge of the history and culture of their country, which form the basis for their behavior and actions. All programs of school geography courses include questions on civic and patriotic education. Geography lessons have created conditions for the formation of the personality of a citizen and patriot of Russia with his inherent values, views, attitudes, motives of activity and behavior, education of citizenship, respect for the environment, knowledge and use of the traditions of the attitude to nature of the local population. Civic and patriotic education remains a priority task in the country’s education system, providing teachers with a unique opportunity to influence the formation of patriotic feelings among young people. It is important to closely link the theoretical material learned in the lessons by students with the possibilities for their application, which will allow them to learn how to independently replenish their knowledge, develop a set of socially valuable personality qualities. The younger generation must learn to think, search for information, find the right use for it, and after learning it, use it for the benefit of themselves, others, and the country. The meaningful core of geography lessons is knowledge about nature and man, who must learn to live with it in peace.
