Abstract. In modern conditions, specialists who are able to instantly adapt to a rapidly changing environment are in demand. In the formation of such skills of students, a significant role is played by the university, which acts as the most important node of communication and project work, the result of which is the embodiment of students’ ideas in the form of a final certification test – a startup. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the achieved results of the implementation and implementation of the Startup as a Diploma program in the educational process and to develop proposals for popularizing the project activities of students in higher education. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were solved in the study: an assessment of the results of the implementation of the Startup as a Diploma program was carried out, the results of which were confirmed by numerical data and visualized in the form of graphic material; the main problems preventing the popularization of the Startup as a Diploma program in other Russian universities were identified; The main proposals for solving the identified problems are formulated. The information and empirical research base was made up of analytical materials from the Ministry of Education and Science (TOP 1000 university startups); scientific developments by various authors; as well as the authors’ own reasoned conclusions. The main results of the scientific publication are the formation of reasonable conclusions based on the results of a quantitative and qualitative analytical assessment of the achieved results of the introduction of the Startup as a Diploma program into the educational activities of universities. The authors, based on quantitative data, came to the conclusion about the popularization of this program among Russian universities, identified priority areas for student startups; identified regions and universities that are leaders in the number of promising startups. The results of this study allowed the authors to put forward the main proposals for solving the previously identified problems.
