Abstract. The article discusses the concepts of professional self-determination, value orientations, the influence of value orientations on the construction of a professional trajectory, and explores the features of the formation of value orientations in relation to professions in the agro-industrial sphere. The purpose of this study is to study the value orientations of young people, their influence on the choice of profession. The choice of the direction of professional development is a difficult task, the solution of which can continue throughout the active professional life of a person, and begins long before the actual choice of professional activity. The author provides extensive statistics on the construction of professional trajectories by Russians, satisfaction with work and their career. The study describes the consequences of inefficient professional self-determination, distortion of value orientations in relation to professions in the form of dissatisfaction, inefficient distribution of human resources in the labor market, and so on. The author singles out and describes the components of professional self-determination: value-motivational, cognitive, operational. As well as the features of the types of value orientations in relation to professional development in the course of professional training at the university: consistent professional, controversial, non-contradictory non-professional. The article presents the results of an empirical study of the distribution of types of value orientations among young people studying at an agricultural university and working young professionals. The author concludes that the student youth is dominated by a contradictory type of value orientations. And working respondents, on the contrary, are mostly people with a clear professional dominant. The least number of people turned out to be focused on activities not related to the profession. The author gives recommendations for the organization of vocational training and the formation of a system of value orientations that contribute to effective learning and subsequent employment and professional activities.
