Abstract. Modern digital technologies play a dual role in the teacher training system. On the one hand, the use of digital tools can affect the effectiveness of such training; on the other hand, the quality of work of future teachers largely depends on the level of mastery of techniques for subsequent professional activities in the context of the use of digital technologies. As part of the scientific research on the project “Chronicle of Mathematical Education of the Lugansk Region” on the basis of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Lugansk State Pedagogical University”, the article examines the problem of developing the digital competence of future mathematics teachers, summarizes the pedagogical essence of the criterion approach to the levels of formation of digital competence in future mathematics teachers and defines levels of formation. This type of education takes into account the current state of scientific knowledge and digitalization trends. The purpose of the study is to substantiate ways to develop the professional competence of future mathematics teachers who will work in the secondary education system. Methodology and methods of scientific research. The methodological basis of this study is: the concepts of scientific substantiation of the educational process, the competency-based approach in education, the concepts of professional socialization of teachers, the theoretical foundations of the digital transformation of education. Research methods: theoretical analysis of scientific and practical literary sources, analysis, synthesis, generalization of experience, experimental work. The result of the study is a model of the process of forming the professional competence of future mathematics teachers in the digital educational environment of the university, describing the target and content components of the process of forming the professional and pedagogical competence of students, the stages of this process.
