Abstract. The article substantiates the role of information technologies in the improvement of physical culture and sports in the conditions of a modern university. The author considers topical issues of formation of information and communication competence of students, problems of implementation of innovative approaches in the methodology of teaching and control of theoretical knowledge in physical culture and sports, as well as possible ways to improve the quality of physical education of students. In the conditions of modern society, physical culture is one of the leading components of the higher education system aimed at solving such goals and objectives as preparing the younger generation for professional activities, for protecting their homeland, for significant sports and intellectual success, etc. Physical culture and sports, aimed at improving the physical and physiological state of the individual, contribute to the formation of specialists morally and spiritually rich, somatically healthy, mentally balanced and stable. The author proves the thesis that the value of the idea of using computer technologies in a physical education lesson is the result of economic and social development in the world community – a new stage in education that requires not only the search for new effective computer programs to accompany lessons, but also the modernization of the lesson itself, which will allow a full-fledged immersion of a modern child in the world of sports. Computer technologies are considered today in the context of the new teacher’s tools and pedagogical technology. The teacher, using computer technology, carefully considers, objectively evaluates the effectiveness of the information and communication technologies and software products used in accordance with the educational program, the tasks put forward, and the expected results.Tthe ultimate goal of the academic discipline, the available knowledge, skills and abilities of the participants in the educational process.
