Abstract. The article is devoted to substantiating the role of research activities in improving the educational and cognitive process. The significance of this problem is also reflected in the Federal State Educational Standard for Basic General Education, which indicates that one of the leading areas of training graduates is to develop their ability to carry out research and project activities, readiness to develop and defend the presentation of the process and results of research, subject or an interdisciplinary educational project. Therefore, the problem of organizing an innovative research laboratory, where students will be engaged in research work together with teachers, is one of the most urgent today. In the article, the author proves the thesis that learning based on research activities in modern educational practice is considered as one of the most effective ways of learning about the world. However, involving students in research activities should not be reduced to the obligatory discovery of some new, previously unknown object or phenomenon, since here, first of all, the very process of forming the ability to search, research, comprehend the logic and structure of a scientific experiment is important. The chosen research topic should arouse cognitive interest among students; differ in practical and social orientation; provide for the joint development of a pilot programme; follow the logic and structure of building a scientific categorical apparatus; contribute to raising the general cultural level of students and improving profile education. The results of the study of the problem of introducing schoolchildren to scientific creativity presented in the article confirm the effectiveness of the process of forming the motivation and cognitive activity of students through the organization of research activities, which is aimed at solving the problem as a result of independent actions of students with the obligatory presentation of these results.
