Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of the formation of functional bilingualism in primary schoolchildren with the use of national games on the example of a polycultural and polyethnic region – the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania. The solution to this problem significantly increases the effectiveness of the educational process in primary school, since play activity, which was still the leading form of activity for children of primary school age, is an important stimulus for cognitive activity, as well as the most important means of optimizing the process of developing functional bilingualism in them. improving the quality of the phonemic and spelling perception of the word. Functional bilingualism in the article is considered as the functioning of two languages within a region, region, state; simultaneous use of two languages at the individual or group levels .. The essential importance of didactic games with a national component in the development of functional bilingualism is also confirmed by the fact that they contribute to relieving stress and fear, activating mental activity, developing attention, developing an emotional mood when learning as written and oral speech. Younger schoolchildren are happy to complete any assignments that contain information of interest to them. Of course, in the texts accompanying the didactic game, it is necessary to alternate fragments of different types: description with narrative elements, narration with description elements, narration with elements of reasoning, etc. Of course, it is necessary to take into account the specifics of the national language, the nature of the didactic game, its correspondence to the age characteristics of the students, and what is especially important, the didactic game should have a huge potential for the development of functional bilingualism.

Keywords: functional bilingualism, Ossetia language, Russian language, national games, communicative situations.
