Abstract. The presented work addresses the pressing issue of systematically developing organizational and managerial skills in master’s students enrolled in professional programs within the field of physical education. The core focus of the research lies in substantiating the pivotal role of motivation as a fundamental pedagogical factor that predetermines the effectiveness and productivity of mastering managerial competencies. Classical motivational constructs — namely Maslow’s hierarchical model of needs, Drucker’s goal-setting theory, and Hersey and Blanchard’s situational leadership framework — combined with an analysis of contemporary empirical data, have allowed us to identify three interrelated strata within the motivational space of future sports management professionals: an intrapsychic level (driven by the individual’s intrinsic cognitive activity), an external level (oriented toward extrinsic parameters of professional success), and a professional-axiological level (associated with a system of value orientations aimed at promoting mass sport). The article elucidates the pedagogical mechanisms that ensure the phased formation of each of the aforementioned strata, while also confirming a direct correlational relationship between the level of motivational preparedness and the efficacy of acquiring managerial functions. An original three-tier typology of the motivational sphere is proposed, accompanied by a detailed characterization of the organizational and methodological conditions for its cultivation within the master’s degree educational environment. The methodological framework of the study is grounded in competency-based and axiological approaches, supplemented by a systematic analysis of scholarly literature on issues of professional education. The practical applicability of the obtained results encompasses the design and modernization of master’s curricula in physical education and sports. The scientific novelty of the research resides in its holistic theoretical substantiation of motivation as a system-forming pedagogical prerequisite for the development of managerial competence among physical education master’s students. The conclusion drawn asserts that the purposeful and stage-by-stage development of the motivational sphere across all three identified levels constitutes an indispensable condition for the high-quality training of managerial personnel capable of effective professional performance within the dynamically evolving sports industry.
