Abstract. Children’s animated films have long been a part of not only cultural and leisure activities, but also a part of educational activities. In Russia today, there is an age classification of information products, which is aimed at limiting potentially dangerous and / or unacceptable content, i.e. it is rather restrictive for producers of children’s animated films and film distributors. And it is addressed primarily to them. At the same time, there is no scientifically based psychological and pedagogical assessment of children’s animated films in terms of their developmental potential, i.e. assessment of the expected benefits of the content. And addressed to teachers and parents (legal representatives). The purpose of this article is to present a system of indicators for assessing the developmental potential of children’s animated films for older preschool children, developed by the author, taking into account the requirements of the federal state educational program of preschool education. The system of indicators for assessing the developmental potential of children’s animated films for older preschool children includes the following educational areas: social and communicative development; cognitive development; speech development; artistic and aesthetic development; Physical development. The procedure for assessing the developmental potential of children’s animated films for older preschoolers is carried out by simply calculating points for specific indicators, structured by the specified areas. The developmental potential of a particular cartoon, based on the total score, can be assessed as high (29-42 points), sufficient (15-28 points), or low (14-0 points). To illustrate the use of the criteria system, the children’s animated film “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea” by director Hayao Miyazaki, released in 2008 and included in the approximate list of animated works for joint family viewing, was used as an example of a psychological and pedagogical assessment.

Keywords: сhildren’s animated films, cartoons, animated films, preschool age, senior preschool age, psychological and pedagogical assessment of children’s animated films, developmental potential.
