THE ROLE OF MILITARY SIGNAL OFFICERS IN TROOPS INFORMATION SUPPORT

Abstract. The article examines the role of military signal officers in the troops information support system in the context of the transition to network-centric warfare principles. It substantiates that the modern military signal officer is a key figure in command and control, providing the command with “digital superiority” over the enemy. Based on the analysis of scientific literature and materials from the official website of the Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne Command School (RVVDKU), the specifics of training military signal officers, combining the development of infocommunication technologies with airborne training, are revealed. The analysis of the signal troops employment practice in the special military operation zone made it possible to identify the most important professional and personal qualities of a modern signal officer: technical mindset and ability for continuous learning, stress resistance, attentiveness, professional intuition, a high degree of responsibility, and collectivism. The image of the modern military signal officer has significantly transformed: he is no longer just a “soldier with a coil,” but a broad-profile IT specialist working with software, satellite systems, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Such qualities as selflessness, responsibility, and readiness to accomplish the task at any cost remain unchanged. Promising directions for further research related to the adaptation of educational programs for training signal officers taking into account the experience gained during modern military conflicts are identified.
