Abstract. This article conducts a comprehensive study of the role and significance of practical skills in modern biology education. The authors view them as a key tool for fundamentally improving the quality and effectiveness of the educational process. A detailed analysis of modern methods and pedagogical technologies aimed at developing students’ experimental, research, and applied skills is provided. Particular attention is given to formats such as project-based and research activities, which allow students to immerse themselves in solving real-world scientific problems, as well as classical and advanced laboratory work, which provides technical skill development. The importance of integrating digital technologies as an integral element of modern biological practice is emphasized, opening up new possibilities for data visualization and analysis. The article places particular emphasis on the need for a deep and continuous integration of theoretical knowledge with practical activities, achieved through the use of innovative pedagogical approaches, including problem-based and contextual learning. A central focus of the study is the evaluation of the effectiveness of practice-oriented learning and its impact on educational outcomes. It has been demonstrated that systematic development of practical skills not only promotes a deeper and more conscious acquisition of subject-specific knowledge in biology but also serves as a powerful catalyst for the development of meta-subject competencies. These include critical and analytical thinking, sustained cognitive activity, and the ability to independently conduct research and work in a team, which fully meets the current requirements of federal educational standards and the needs of modern society and the dynamically developing labor market.

Keywords: biological education, practical skills, quality of education, research activities, project-based learning, experiment.
