ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES: IMPORTANCE, OPPORTUNITIES AND PROSPECTS

Abstract. The article examines teaching English to IT students and anyone interested in understanding computer-related vocabulary. The paper describes theoretical foundations of information technologies, outlines both the role and place of the English language in the modern world. The author substantiates the reasons for the dominance of the English language in the field of information technologies. It is noted that mastering English for specific purposes is only possible if the learner possesses good knowledge of general English. The article contains a list of electronic resources to improve the level of general English. Great attention is given to identifying the most significant directions in teaching IT English. The paper studies the current methods of teaching professional vocabulary and the role of information technologies in this process. It is spoken in detail about effective techniques for teaching and training professional vocabulary in the field of IT such as using materials from IT companies and IT bloggers, visiting IT forums, websites, as well as online broadcasts of international events for programmers, working with specialized authentic literature designed particularly for IT specialists, listening to foreign podcasts and audiobooks on various aspects of IT, etc. The author describes her personal experience in creating an electronic practice tool to learn IT vocabulary at different language levels. The paper gives a brief overview of exercises aimed at mastering IT vocabulary in such topics as computer components, computer peripherals, keyboard symbols, various computer operations, etc. The practical value of the conducted research consists in the possibility of using its results both in the course of self-study of professional terminology in the field of IT and at lessons of English and IT.
