PROFESSIONAL AGENCY OF FUTURE TEACHERS: CONCEPTUALIZATION OF THE NOTION

Abstract. Currently due to transformations in the education system and new requirements for both students and teachers, the problem of agency development is becoming particularly significant. Professional agency of a teacher is now considered a determinant of their personal and professional development, as well as a crucial condition for the development of student agency and the education system as a whole. The purposeful development of professional agency in future teachers during their university studies requires defining its essential content and operational characteristics. This article aims to conceptualize the notion of «professional agency of a future teacher», define its component structure, criteria, and specific indicators that allow for assessing its level of development. Based on the analysis of psychological and pedagogical research, the most significant agency-related qualities were identified, and the structure of professional agency of future teachers was determined. This structure represents a system of individual-specific qualities and abilities of a student’s personality that ensure the success of their educational and professional activities and guide their professional development. The author has developed a model of professional agency of a future teacher, which includes two key components: motivational-prognostic and regulatory-activity based. Each component is described through a set of criteria and indicators that allow for diagnosing the level of its formation. The article concludes by outlining promising directions for further research. The proposed theoretical model of professional agency of future teachers provides opportunities for its experimental study and diagnostics and contributes to further solving the problems of determining optimal conditions and developing methods for its development during professional training.
