THE ROLE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE IN FORMING PROFESSIONAL OUTLOOK OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS STUDENTS

Abstract.An integral component of international relations students’ professional training is the formation of professional outlook, which implies building a system of values and guidelines on which the future professional activities of the graduate depends. A significant role in this process belongs to the foreign language course, which is an essential component of the curriculum at an international relations university. The purpose of the article is to determine the importance of the role of foreign language course in forming the professional outlook of students at international relations university. The research is based on the results of two surveys of students of MGIMO-Tashkent branch (N=55), which allowed to determine the students’ attitude to the role of foreign languages in their future professional activities and to evaluate the significance of various types of classroom and extracurricular work for the formation of professional outlook. The research results analysis showed the prior importance of status, motivational-intentional and axiological components of the professional outlook of an international relations specialist and the leading role of a foreign language course in their formation. The study revealed the necessity of explaining to students the purpose of performing each type of classroom and extracurricular tasks and events in connection with future professional activities. The research demonstrated the essential role of foreign language-based classroom and extracurricular activities in forming the professional outlook of an international relations student.
