Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the model of modern family education as a social phenomenon and its relationship with public education, the analysis of the role of family education in the development of the child’s personality, the formation and development of his self-efficacy, the main tasks of family education. The theoretical premise for choosing the direction of the research was the versatility of modern family education as the basis of self-efficacy of the individual, the dynamism of traditional family values, the contradictory nature of the trends in the development of the institution of family and parenthood. In the article, the author examines the features of family education, which are determined by the number of children in the family, gives a psychological and pedagogical description of education in a family where an only child is brought up, as well as in large families. Substantiating various aspects of family education, the author comes to the conclusion that the leading task of family education is not only the formation of individual qualities of the child’s personality, which contribute to the successful overcoming of possible obstacles that every young person may encounter on the path of life, but also the education in him of a sense of responsibility for his actions and deeds, the formation of his self-efficacy. An important factor in the success of family education is the child’s lack of doubts about parental love and care; he feels confident that he is loved, his opinions, interests, needs and achievements are taken into account. Each era is characterized by its own methods, principles and approaches to educating the younger generation, but the fact that the child was and will be a subtle psychologist who perfectly feels his parents and his educators remains unchanged. Therefore, we should not forget that family education is not only the formation of a physically and mentally healthy person, but also a guarantee of his success, providing the conditions that set the vector of his successful socialization and personal effectiveness.
