 Abstract. The educational significance of the Great Victory is formulated in the following key ideas: The Great Victory is a national treasure and a historical symbol of the Russian state and people; she made a decisive contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany, the victories of the countries of the anti-fascist coalition in World War II; The Great Victory became possible due to a number of factors that acquire historical and spiritual moral value as its lessons; victory became possible thanks to patriotism, love for the motherland, high morale of Soviet soldiers, willingness to sacrifice their lives for the Fatherland. The main ways of realizing the educational potential of the Great Victory are revealed: the younger generation deeply mastering its phenomena, which manifested during the war years the best folk traits and qualities associated with patriotism, love for the motherland and the desire to defend its independence; preservation of historical memory, achievement of continuity of generations; the formation, on the basis of an objective assessment of the events of the war, of national historical self-awareness as a nation of winners; a new understanding of the historical experience of the struggle and victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and its application for the education of spiritual, moral, civil and patriotic qualities among the younger generation.
