Abstract. This article explores the role of students’ functional literacy in the context of the digital transformation of education, analyzing its key components, such as reading, mathematics, science, financial, socio-cultural, and digital literacy. The relevance of studying students’ functional literacy is justified by the fact that virtual educational environments, adaptive educational platforms, and generative artificial intelligence are changing the ways we interact with educational material, making learning more interactive, personalized, and engaging. Education is becoming a mechanism for adaptation, and learning is a continuous process integrated into everyday life. To function effectively in such an environment, it is not enough to simply possess subject-specific knowledge. The very logic of developing students’ functional literacy in the context of the digital transformation of education shifts the focus from purely subject-specific knowledge to how students work with information, tools, and tasks in the new digital reality. This requires a range of skills: analyzing data, systematizing it, summarizing it, assessing the reliability of sources, and using digital tools safely and responsibly. In the era of digital transformation in education, these skills are becoming the foundation for everything: from learning and careers to everyday choices: what to read, what news to trust. They enable us not just to passively consume information, but to actively engage with it: selecting the most reliable information, checking it for safety, turning it into a tool for solving vital problems, and all the while acting consciously and safely. Analyzing data doesn’t just mean collecting numbers or facts; it means breaking them down, understanding patterns, causes and effects, drawing conclusions, formulating general conclusions or strategies, and interpreting the results. All of this constitutes the essence of students’ functional literacy in the digital age.
Keywords: students’ functional literacy, digital transformation of education, social adaptation.
