Abstract. This research examines the potential for utilizing the cultural and historical landscape of a small town as a foundation for educational initiatives. Beyond learning as a strictly verified process of knowledge transmission, education also entails expanding the information base, fostering cultural exchange among the general population, and promoting enlightenment linked to overall intellectual and moral development. Enlightening endeavors tend to be less formal, which is reflected in their methods and tools. These include informal approaches such as engaging with artworks, films, interactive workshops, quizzes, and guided tours. The urban cultural and historical landscape can serve as a means of enlightening outreach. The empirical data comprised information on street names and public establishments, museums, as well as details about the coat of arms of the Arsk district and the potential for their use by educational institutions to raise awareness of the city of Arsk’s history and culture. General theoretical research methods encompass analysis and synthesis. The research methodology involved analyzing the local coat of arms, examining the semantics of trophonyms, and conducting a statistical analysis of street names that fulfill a commemorative function in relation to figures historically connected to the town. It was found that 24.8% of all street names in Arsk address this objective. The article provides historical background on certain notable individuals (G. Kursavi, V. Yezhkov, N. Tajdarova, S. Vagizov, R. Tukhvatullin). Information about the museums in Arsk (ethnographic, literary, museum of writing) enhances opportunities for enlightening tourists and residents. Decoding the district’s coat of arms, which highlights the military past and the current economic profile, can also contribute to forming an impression of the city’s character. In conclusion, the research found that enlightening activities grounded in engaging with the urban environment should be underpinned by historical and cultural knowledge and the principle of objectivity.
