Abstract. Research into the relationship between research and emotional intelligence in PR training is relevant and necessary: empathy, self-regulation, and audience understanding skills are critical in public relations. Developing emotional intelligence improves communication effectiveness, helps one adequately analyze situations, and build trusting relationships—all of which directly impact a professional’s success. The article examines the problem of integrating emotional intelligence development techniques into the research activities of future public relations specialists. The relevance of the study is due to the digital transformation of the communication environment and the increasing role of affective components in the professional training of PR specialists. The purpose of the work is to identify the potential and test emotional intelligence techniques integrated into the research activities of communication students. The methodological basis comprises systemic, activity-based and competence-based approaches. In the course of experimental work, two original techniques were tested: discourse analysis of emotional tonality of media texts and self-regulation training in stressful research situations. The results showed positive dynamics in students’ ability to identify hidden emotional markers and a decrease in the level of situational anxiety. The novelty of the study lies in substantiating the complementarity of «external» and «internal» emotional competence in the structure of research activity of a PR specialist. The practical significance lies in the possibility of implementing the presented techniques into professional training programs. It is concluded that affective components should be included in the content of research training for future communicators.
Keywords: research activity, emotional intelligence, public relations specialist, discourse analysis, self-regulation, media text, professional training.
