Abstract. The philosophical concept of “dialogue of cultures” has entered the categorical apparatus of science and the cultural life of modern society. Despite the ambiguity of this term, in general, dialogue of cultures is understood as one of the constructive forms of interaction in the space of culture, which involves an active exchange of the content of the contracting cultures while preserving their originality. In other words, dialogue of cultures is a condition for the development of culture. Just as new discoveries are made at the intersection of sciences in science, the development of one culture is carried out in interaction with other cultures, which involves exchange, enrichment, and transformation. In this article, the author reveals the features and content of the dialogue of cultures based on the concepts of the scholars-dialogists M. Bakhtin and V. Bibler, who interpreted it as an equal communication between different cultures, artistic worlds, and different consciousnesses embodied in texts and understood in the broadest sense. According to the author, the dialogue of cultures is based on two ideas: the idea of culture as a space of interaction and the idea of dialogue as a manifestation of the diversity of cultures, which is represented through intercultural communication. The author postulates the thesis that since cultures are diverse, there can be no full-fledged dialogue and interaction between them if they are considered outside of their unity, which is based on the identity of their meanings and spiritual essence. The article focuses on revealing the dialogue of cultures as an interaction between equal consciousnesses, its existence and existential nature, as well as the mutual recognition of each other by the parties, including the understanding of their mutual differences while striving to combine their positions. The author argues that due to the fact that cultures interact as “personified poles,” they can be seen as a reflection of the people who live and represent a specific, historically determined cultural space. In conclusion, the author emphasizes that the dialogue of cultures is a form of interaction that allows them to maintain their own distinctiveness and integrity while mutually enriching and evolving.
