SYSTEM OF METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS OF MODERN HISTORICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL RESEARCH

Abstract. In the context of continuous educational reforms and increasing attention to the past of domestic education as a source of ideas, the problem of increasing the heuristic potential and practical application of the results of historical and pedagogical research is becoming especially urgent. The aim of the work is to systematize the methodological tools that ensure the relevance and heuristic nature of the results and products of historical and pedagogical research. Based on the analysis of sources on the history and methodology of science, the works of experts in the field of history of pedagogy, the author proposes a classification of tools of historical and pedagogical research, structured in accordance with the set of tasks to be solved. Five groups of tools are distinguished: 1) tools for reconstructing the sequence of events and connections, including rational, archival and critical reconstruction; 2) tools for analyzing and dynamically presenting the evolution of thought or practice, including historical and scientific, science studies, general historical, historical and cultural and special scientific historical and pedagogical tools; 3) tools for obtaining data and information from an array of sources using theoretical constructs (existing and independently constructed in the course of the study) and modern digital tools and artificial intelligence tools; 4) tools for synthesizing and presenting the results of teachers’ activities in the form of a holistic theoretical or methodological construct necessary for returning insufficiently developed or forgotten ideas to scientific circulation; 5) tools for reconstructing the conditions for the applicability of the best practices of the past and developing recommendations for the implementation of retro-innovations in modern realities. The proposed classification is the key scientific result of the article and allows using historical and pedagogical knowledge as a resource for solving modern problems of pedagogical theory, educational policy and practice, provided that the results are interpreted taking into account the socio-cultural context and scientific reflection. Further research may be related to the search for tools to overcome the risk of excessive modernization of past experience.
