Abstract. The paper addresses the use of pedagogical improvisation in teaching Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) to students of an international relations university. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to work in non-standard situations, revealing the creative potential of the teacher, and preparing students of international relations for professional activities in conditions of uncertainty and rapid change. The purpose of the study is to identify the main difficulties and typical situations in which a teacher has to resort to pedagogical improvisation. The study is based on the personal-activity approach, with the use of survey and analysis methods. The research revealed a positive relationship between teaching experience and the assessment of the importance of improvisation. The most important conditions for effective and successful improvisation are flexibility of thinking, deep knowledge of the subject and teaching experience. The main difficulties that prevent the use of improvisation include: the need to follow the curriculum, the time frame of the lesson and the heavy teaching load. The most typical situations for using pedagogical improvisation in LSP classes are: unexpected questions from students, changes in the composition of the group, technical failures and replacements of other teachers. The author concludes that it is necessary to conduct advanced training programs related to the development of teaching proficiency. The study contributes to the development of the theory of professional language training. Its results can be used in the development of advanced training programs and a course in linguodidactics.

Keywords: pedagogical improvisation, pedagogical experience, pedagogical creativity, professional activity, flexibility of thinking, LSP.
