Abstract. Currently, decryption is an integral part of any type of survey, study of the area, drawing up maps and plans of any scale and purpose. The development of technology allows a person in a short period of time to obtain high-precision maps, plans, diagrams, which allow to solve tasks of both the civilian and the military value of the Article is devoted to the study of images obtained with Yandex and Google maps that can be used for practical classes at the University on the subject of “Aerospace sensing and photogrammetry”, as well as to serve as an example of the design work in summer practices on the subject. The article describes the main methods of processing low-resolution satellite images with the selection of decryption standards for visual reading of images. The process of decoding when compiling and updating topographic maps is considered on a broad geographical basis, taking into account the complexity of the tasks to be solved and the production orientation of mapping. The paper highlights the methods of performing the work, describes the main stages, with a detailed description of all calculations: calculating the scale of the image, determining the decryption standards, showing objects that are not displayed on the image, but are present on the ground, explains the list of used symbols that should be on the map according to regulatory documents. This paper presents an example of a ready-made map that was obtained when decrypting a low-quality image. The results obtained can serve as a basis for placing construction structures in areas with small development, as well as become additional material for drawing up various tourist maps for this area.

Keywords: Yandex maps, decryption, Desk work, plans, diagrams, cartography, practical work.
