Abstract. The article discusses one of the drivers providing the economy of any state with investment resources and providing an opportunity to receive income from the placement of free funds – the securities market. It has huge potential in Russia as a country with a developing economy. The relevance of the study is due to the crucial role of the securities market for state financial policy and attracting investors. The transformation of savings and savings as temporarily free private capital into investments creates new horizons for expanding the spheres of influence of the market, strengthens its position, and, consequently, strengthens the position of the state in the world economy. In modern conditions, more than ever, it is necessary to develop new ways of attracting investments to the market to restore the country after shock situations. The purpose of this study is to reveal the mechanism of the securities market in 2012-2019, identify problems and find ways to solve them, as well as develop possible development strategies. The object of the research is the securities market in Russia, the subject is the economic relations arising in the market, including in the sector of government and corporate securities. The research methods used in this work to conduct the most complete analysis of the company are analytical and comparative, analysis and synthesis, a method of quantitative and qualitative assessment. In accordance with this goal, the following tasks are solved, the results of which are presented in the article: some theoretical aspects of the securities market are considered; the analysis of the state and corporate sectors of the securities market was carried out, the problems and prospects of the market development were identified; formulated practical recommendations for the development of the market, and also developed a model of the optimal investment portfolio.
