Abstract. The article discusses research activities of graduates in the area of study ‘Service’. Nowadays, research activity is one of the main types of professional activity for which the graduate is trained. At the present stage of society development, research behaviour is considered as an important component of a person’s characteristics, an indicator of his professionalism and competence. Therefore, the formation of research competence is one of the most significant tasks in training graduates who study Service. The content of graduates’ research activity is determined in accordance with the content of the Master degree programme and is fixed in the individual plan of research. The general management of research activities for the Master degree programme, as a rule, is carried out by the programme manager individually or together with the professor responsible for research. The head of the Master degree program conducts scientific seminars and controls activities of scientific supervisors of graduate students. The analysis of the experience of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Activities and Service of Sholom-Aleichem Priamursky State University shows that the University has created the necessary conditions for training bachelors and masters. There are appropriate laboratories; there is an active cooperation with employers. In the process of interaction a variety of forms and methods of work is used. Our experience shows that the more time students spend at service enterprises, the more motivated they become. Depending on the type of practical training, they develop professional competencies, personal and professional qualities, organizational and managerial abilities. After graduation, students do not have a problem where to find a job. When studying at the university, most of the graduates are employed.
