Abstract. The article considers the problem of the negative impact of the lack of state ideology on the professional education of specialists in the Russian education system. Being a kind of upbringing software, ideology as a system of views reflecting the interests of leading social, ethnic and religious groups of society, together with the corresponding systems of their values, needs to be formalized at the state level. State ideology can be a vector that determines the coordinated development of educational institutions that are part of the life of new generations of Russians. We formulate the essence, content and characteristics of state ideology as a holistic phenomenon, which is the ideological basis of professional education. At the conclusion of their study, the authors come to an essential interpretation of the concept of “state ideology”, revealing it as a holistic phenomenon with various manifestations, including the state ideology of education, which is simultaneously in the conceptual field of state educational policy and state ideology. And as a result, they consider that as an ideological phenomenon, state ideology is absent in the country today. This makes the entire state policy, which lacks the image of the Russian future, ineffective.

Keywords: ideology of society, ideology of education, state ideology, the formation of ideology.
