Abstract. The article analyzes the problems of military-pedagogical training of officers in a historical retrospective. The formation of the foundations of pedagogical practice in Russia and the emergence of military pedagogical ideas in the XVIII – XIX centuries are characterized. The military pedagogical practice of this period, which was formed empirically in military schools, and its negative impact on the training of officers for training and educating subordinates, was studied. The special role of D.A. Milyutina and M.I. Dragomirova – organizers of the military reform of 1862–1874. The achievements of the Soviet military school in the development of military pedagogical ideas and their practical implementation are briefly described. The question was raised about the revival of the system of military-pedagogical training of officers of the modern Russian army. For basic, pedagogical education and advanced training of teachers of military universities, it is proposed to use the opportunities of pedagogical universities and institutes of advanced training of educational workers.
