Abstract. The prerequisites, causes, actions, specifics and results of the initial period of strengthening social protest in the field of education in the Irkutsk region in recent times are studied. On the basis of the conducted research, the characteristic features of the initial stage of the reinforcement process of the protest movement of teachers in the Irkutsk Region in the recent period have been established. This topic is at the junction of history, political science and sociology, and is currently little studied from the point of view of these sciences. Comprehensive historical studies of regional sectoral social protest are completely absent, and without studying social protest in the educational sphere, a complete and comprehensive scientific study of Russian and regional history from the end of the 20th century is impossible. The scientific novelty of the research results is that this topic is poorly understood.
