Abstract.  The article considers the results of a survey of Volgograd residents on the operation of the Volgograd arena football stadium before, during and after the 2018 FIFA world Cup. Due to the fact that recently Russia, which does not have much experience in conducting large-scale sporting events, as well as in the policy of managing the legacy of such events, has become the host of the world Cup, and in the near future will become the host of the Universiade, the issue of demand for facilities after the mega-event is relevant. The author investigated the mood of the residents of Volgograd, as one of the cities, which may have problems with the efficiency of heritage operation after the 2018 world Cup. It was found that, despite the positive assessment of the world Cup in Volgograd, and the positive lighting of the new stadium, residents of the city are rarely at the matches of the native club “Rotor”, which is alarming, because according to the “concept of the heritage of the world Cup”, primarily the object will be used as the home stadium of the football club “Rotor-Volgograd”.
