Abstract. In the modern period, there is an active reorganization of the structure of children’s recreation and organizations, and, of course, this also applies to health camps. This is organized for the purpose of organizing high-quality leisure, effective educational space and socialization of children and adolescents who are vacationing in a children’s camp. Along with methods, techniques and means, there are various organizational forms of educational activity, as a way of expedient implementation of individual and group and mass activities of adolescents.  Social education in a children’s health camp is implemented through a children’s group, in other words – a temporary team. To consider the temporary children’s collective of a children’s health camp as a small group, the article presents various concepts for defining a “small group”. The temporary children’s team is considered within the framework of the structural characteristics of a small group in a children’s health camp. After analyzing the classifications of small groups and applying them to the children’s temporary collective, the socio-psychological features of the studied group were revealed. Next, we analyzed experimental activities to identify the socio-psychological driving forces of the organization of the educational space of the children’s health camp, which was organized in 2016 on the territory of the children’s health camp “Young Builder”, located in the Moscow region. To identify socio-psychological circumstances that affect the implementation of the educational space of the child care institution in question. We organized a survey among: teenagers from among the participants of the camp shift, their parents and representatives of the administration. We compared the processed results with the data obtained from the survey of counselors and identified the leading socio-psychological circumstances that affect the organization of the educational space of the considered children’s institution.
