Abstract. Contemporary cinema possesses powerful educational potential. The aim of this study is to analyze the image of fathers as a model for home education through the medium of feature films. Content analysis is used as the primary research method. The large number of films covering this topic confirms its relevance and allows us to identify common trends in on-screen father images. The study explores the influence of country of production on the image of fathers, as well as their role in films. The results demonstrate that in popular films, fathers are most often presented as a symbol of supreme love for children and a courageous figure. However, there is also a tendency for the image of fathers to shift and become more complex, ranging from idealization and heroization to criticism and even sarcasm. The caring father is represented equally as much as the distant father. Thus, to a certain extent, cinema perpetuates the crisis of traditional models of home education. Under the influence of postmodern trends, the transmission of family values is losing its significance, and the need to convey life lessons and values that were relevant in past times is lost. Moreover, the crisis of the traditional model of family and fatherhood is increasingly characteristic of foreign cinema. To preserve and strengthen traditional family relationships and the father’s responsibility for his family, appropriate filmic father images that model positive patterns of home education are necessary. The results of this study are important for contemporary filmmakers and specialists in the fields of pedagogy and psychology, as the image of the father in contemporary feature films has enormous potential for modeling home education.
