ASSESSING THE DIGITAL COMPETENCY LEVEL OF CLINICAL FACULTY: RESULTS OF A CONCLUSIVE EXPERIMENT

Abstract. The digital transformation of healthcare places new demands on teachers of clinical departments, whose activities are at the intersection of medical and pedagogical activities. In addition, clinical teachers, for the most part, carry out research activities, working on their own dissertations, supervising graduate students and applicants, participating in scientific projects. These types of activities determine the threefold nature of the digital competence of clinical teachers.  In our opinion, the solution to the problem of the formation of digital competence of teachers of clinical departments is currently incomplete. As the analysis of the literature shows, the issues of a systematic, holistic approach to the formation of digital competencies of clinical teachers have not been developed, and the appropriate diagnostic apparatus has not been developed. The purpose of the study is to organize a ascertaining experiment aimed at diagnosing the initial level of digital competencies of teachers of clinical departments, identifying typical deficits and substantiating approaches to overcome them. 217 teachers from clinical departments of two medical universities took part in the experiment; the author’s diagnostic tools were used from four blocks – motivational-value, cognitive, activity and clinical-digital. Summarizing the results revealed the presence of pronounced psychological barriers and role conflict, fragmented didactic-digital knowledge and a low level of design skills against the background of higher preparedness in the field of medical digital technologies. Significant negative associations of digital competencies with age and medical experience have been established. The conclusion is made about the systemic nature of the identified deficits and the necessity of developing a special pedagogical model for the purposeful development of digital competencies of teachers of clinical departments is substantiated.
