Abstract. This article is devoted to folklore as a pedagogical means of forming the value orientations of senior preschoolers. The article provides specific examples of the formation of values, value orientations, and moral concepts based on the works of the oral art of the Russian people. The educational potential of folklore lies in the accessible content of the works of oral folk art, in the vivid emotional coloring, and in the high level of involvement in interaction with the material and with peers, which helps children to acquire value orientations. Folklore performances that are implemented in the modern world create a unique educational environment in which preschoolers acquire moral behavior through direct experience of vivid emotional states and various life situations of fairy-tale characters. Also, in the process of studying various forms of folklore, preschoolers form a system of traditional values and ideals, in which the content of works of oral folk art becomes the basis for building their own picture of the world. The child not only passively absorbs information about moral concepts and qualities, but also learns to apply this knowledge in practice through play, theatricalization, and participation in rituals. The emotional response evoked by folklore plays a crucial role in this process: by empathizing with the characters, children learn to distinguish between good and evil, understand the motives behind their actions, and relate them to their own ideas of appropriate behavior. Furthermore, group activities—joint dramatizations, round dances, and folk games—help children develop collaboration skills, the ability to consider the interests of others, and demonstrate empathy and responsibility. Thus, folklore becomes not only a source of moral knowledge but also an effective tool for its practical application in preschoolers’ daily lives.
