ENGLISH FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES AND ACADEMIC PURPOSES IN THE TRAINING OF STUDENTS IN NON-LINGUISTIC SPECIALTIES: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS

Abstract. In the modern world of global communications, social networks and professional self-realization, proficiency in a foreign language is a prerequisite. New realities require university graduates to have knowledge and skills that they can apply in a globalized society and work effectively in a dynamically changing technological environment. In this context, the university is faced with the task of training not only highly qualified specialists in professional fields, but also individuals with developed professional and communication skills. At the same time, to meet the requirements and needs of employers, the training process should be focused on specific results related to the development of knowledge, skills and competencies. The aim of the article is to investigate the possibilities of English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes in teaching foreign languages ​​to students of non-linguistic specialties. Methods. The study used the following general scientific research methods: the method of analyzing scientific and methodological literature on the research problem to determine the content of the main concepts of the study, as well as the main characteristics of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP); A generalization method for defining the place of business discourse and business communication in the context of teaching Business English as a subtype of ESP and EAP. Results. The article presents an approach aimed at developing the communicative competencies of students majoring in non-linguistic fields using English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). The novelty of the study lies in its overview of ESP and EAP in the context of business discourse and business English, as well as in its analysis of the challenges of teaching foreign languages ​​in an academic environment with a focus on students majoring in non-linguistic fields and recommendations for overcoming them.
