Abstract. The article is devoted to the theoretical understanding of the phenomenon of academic culture as a pedagogical category in the context of modern scientific and educational space. The relevance of the research is determined by the need to understand the role of academic culture in ensuring the integrity of society, the innovative development of the state and its technological sovereignty. The purpose of the work is to determine the essence of academic culture and to develop its structure. The methodological base consists of general scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization, content analysis, as well as systemic, cultural and synergetic approaches that have allowed to identify and analyze key guidelines for understanding academic culture, to determine its structural components. In the course of the study, the concept of “culture” was clarified in relation to interaction with the educational sphere, which served as a starting point for studying the existing range of approaches to interpreting the essence of academic culture. The author’s definition of academic culture is proposed as an integral, historically developing, complexly organized system of spiritual values and material means of their embodiment, methods of storing, reproducing and broadcasting standards and inherited practices of scientific research, serving as the basis for the formation of a researcher’s professional identity, building the potential of the scientific community and sustainable development of the state. The author’s hierarchy of cultural structure in spatial terms is presented. aspect. Based on the generalization of the views of domestic and foreign scientists, the key dominants of the content of academic culture have been identified, which made it possible to develop and visualize the structure of academic culture, which includes six interrelated components (value-motivational, structural-functional, cognitive-methodological, activity, communicative, innovative and transformational). Taking into account the level specifics of the manifestation of academic culture, its functioning in the scientific and educational space has been clarified in the form of an interconnected chain: academic culture – academic culture of the university – academic culture of a group of scientists (scientific community) – academic culture of a scientist – academic culture of a young researcher, demonstrating the cyclical nature of the mutual influence of the external environment, scientific and educational space and academic culture.
