Abstract.The article substantiates the need to develop project-based research competencies in future vocational education teachers in the context of increasing the national potential of the Russian Federation and ensuring personnel, intellectual and technological independence. These specialists play a key role in training skilled workers, employees, and technical professionals for various industries, acting as a link between the vocational education system and the manufacturing sector. The integration of pedagogical and industry-specific training enables vocational education teachers to respond to current labour market demands and to design educational products aimed at improving the quality of student training. At the same time, participation in project-based research and technical activities together with students creates conditions for initiating and testing innovative solutions in the production sector. One of the key stages in addressing this challenge is diagnosing the level of development of project-based research competencies in future vocational education teachers and identifying problematic aspects of their theoretical and practical training. The aim of the study is to develop a criteria-based diagnostic framework for assessing the formation of project-based research competencies in future vocational education teachers. The framework includes a system of criteria, relevant indicators, and level descriptors reflecting the structural characteristics of the phenomenon under study and is based on a previously developed model of competency formation. The study employs general scientific methods as well as the principles of systemic, comprehensive, and synergistic methodological approaches. The results contribute to the development of the theory and practice of vocational education in the context of assessing project-based research competencies in future vocational education teachers.
