Abstract. In the 21st century, the world is transforming at an unprecedented rate, and digital technologies are driving these changes. Education is no exception to this general trend: modern pedagogy is undergoing a profound transformation, actively adapting and implementing innovative digital solutions. This makes the learning process not only more productive and accessible to a wider audience but also introduces new forms of interaction between teacher and student. The transition to a digital learning format offers teachers and students unique opportunities for development, but it also poses a number of complex challenges for the education system. Among the key advantages of using digital technologies in education, the elimination of geographic barriers is particularly noteworthy. Now, people living in remote corners of the planet, as well as those who, for various reasons, cannot regularly attend educational institutions, have a real chance to gain knowledge and realize their educational potential. This article examines the transformation of the self-study environment of undergraduate students under the influence of digital technologies. A set of digital self-study competencies necessary for effective navigation in the new educational environment is identified. After reviewing current research and student survey data, the authors identified key trends in the use of AI technologies (video and audio content, interactive simulators, search simulators, chatbots, etc.) and identified key issues such as information overload and infophobia, digital consumerism, and self-regulation difficulties. The research and analysis led to the conviction that it is necessary to specifically develop students’ digital didactic literacy within university educational programs.
