Abstract. This article discusses the features of the process of training students in the field of 05.03.03 “Cartography and Geoinformatics”. It provides an analysis of data on higher education institutions (hereinafter referred to as “HEIs”) in this field and a map titled “Geography of HEIs in the Russian Federation that train students in the field of Cartography and Geoinformatics”, compiled by cartographers. The article highlights the current importance and potential of the field of Cartography and Geoinformatics and outlines the main areas of development. It is noted that the educational and professional field is unique, integrating a wide range of knowledge that covers both theoretical and applied skills. The intersection of these aspects stimulates the formation of specialists who can not only create various maps, but also solve complex problems in the field of spatial data and geoinformation systems using modern technical tools. The individuality of this field lies in its interdisciplinary nature. During their studies, students learn how to create maps of various types and purposes, including topographic, thematic, navigational, cadastral, and many others. This comprehensive approach opens up a wide range of applications, from environmental monitoring and military intelligence to urban planning and tourism development. In view of the development of new technologies, such as satellite imagery, geoinformation systems (GIS), and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, cartographers are expanding their professional horizons and exploring new ways to interpret, present, and visualize data. This work aims to highlight the relevance and potential of this field, which is characterized by the rapid development of new technologies and data processing methods.
