Abstract. In modern society, the ability to model random events through situational analysis, understand potential risks, and make informed decisions is an essential skill for a modern person. These skills are relevant not only in the subject area of mathematics but also in real life. They form the basis of functional literacy of modern man. Deterministic mathematics offers tools for solving practical problems, but the results of rigorous calculations are often useless from a practical point of view, while the use of probabilistic methods often yields more valuable results for real actions related to choice situations. The topic “Repeating Independent Trials. Bernoulli’s Formula” is one of the most important topics in the school curriculum “Probability and Statistics” in terms of developing students’ functional literacy. This article describes the methodological aspects of studying and generalizing this topic in school. It describes in detail the stages of conducting the final lesson on the topic “Repeat Independent Trials, Bernoulli’s Equation,” aimed at developing students’ functional literacy. This article offers a worksheet for reinforcing the algorithm for working with Bernoulli’s formula, and provides a step-by-step example of solving practical problems on this topic using Excel spreadsheets. The selection of problems for the summary lesson may be different. Tasks for independent calculations are presented. The final section of the article describes the assessment criteria for assignments completed independently by students and provides questions for reflection at the end of the lesson.
Keywords: Bernoulli’s equation, repetition of independent trials, methodological features, school lesson.
