Abstract. The article discusses the issue of self-education as a key component of professional training for cadets in higher education institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the context of the information society and life-long learning. The author substantiates the relevance of developing self-education activities in the conditions of the transformation of requirements for the personal and professional competencies of law enforcement officers, caused by dynamic socio-cultural, technological, and criminogenic changes. The author emphasises that self-education in the 21st century is not an optional component but a dominant paradigm of education, ensuring the development of professional flexibility, critical thinking, the ability to make quick decisions and moral self-determination. Particular attention is paid to the methodological foundations of self-education activities: systemic, activity-based, humanitarian-anthropological and axiological approaches are highlighted, each of which reveals different aspects of the formation of the personality of a future police officer. The author notes the need to integrate self-education into the educational process through individual educational trajectories, educational research and project activities, value-oriented reflective practices, as well as anthropological practices that integrate professional training with imbibing the key service values of honour, duty, responsibility and patriotism. In conclusion, the author suggests that the formation of a stable self-education culture among cadets is a strategic resource for improving the quality of training for internal affairs agencies, ensuring not only professional competence but also personal integrity and readiness to serve society in conditions of uncertainty and modern challenges.

Keywords: self-education, life-long learning, professional training, humanitarian-anthropological, axiological approach, systemic approach, activity-based approach, anthropological practices, moral stability, personal integrity, individual educational trajectory, value orientations.
