Abstract. The rapid transformations of recent years in the higher education system have highlighted the need to prepare students – future specialists in various fields and specializations ready for successful, independent work within their respective specialties. In this regard, this article is devoted to substantiating the applied focus of teaching mathematics to students in non-core fields, identifying the role of mathematical disciplines in students’ personal development, and developing the ability to find the most effective solutions to complex problems that arise when modeling real-world processes in their future professional activities. An analysis of scientific research summarizing the accumulated experience of applying mathematical tools, methods, and models in the development of many scientific fields: physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economics, etc., has revealed a pedagogical pattern: mathematics serves not simply as an additional tool in students’ professional training, but as an indispensable component for the formation of new theories; the testing and objective assessment of hypotheses; and the verification of the validity of scientific research results in a given field. This experience demonstrates that the more complex and multifaceted the reality being studied in any scientific field becomes, the more sophisticated mathematical methods and techniques are required for its adequate description and understanding. The steady trend toward expanding logical connections between mathematics and various academic disciplines, creating a synergistic effect, opens new horizons for interdisciplinary research and solutions to global human problems, facilitates the emergence of new interdisciplinary fields, and actualizes the potential of mathematical methods in solving professional problems.

Keywords: teaching mathematics at a university, mathematics for students of non-core specialties, integration of mathematics and other disciplines.
