Abstract. The objectives of the study were to assess the indicators of tourist activity of the subjects of the Russian Federation included in the Volga Federal District, to identify trends and prospects for the growth of demand for tourism services from the population of the regions. For this purpose, quantitative and qualitative indicators characterizing the income of citizens and their number, the number of persons served by regional travel agencies, are considered. Using statistical analysis methods (dynamic analysis, coefficient analysis, graphical analysis, correlation analysis), a rating of tourist attractiveness was formed and justified, and the places of each of the regions under consideration in it were determined. The correlation analysis allowed us to establish the relationship of the indicator calculated by us with the income factor, which we considered as the main one influencing tourist activity. The forecast of tourist activity allowed us to show the possible dynamics of the indicator for two calendar years ahead. For the study, official statistics published in the public domain on Rosstat’s Internet resources for the period from 2004 to 2023 were used. In general, the positive dynamics of tourist activity has been established, both in absolute and relative terms. The growth of tourist activity is predicted, as well as strengthening positions in the rating of Saratov, Kirov, Ulyanovsk, Samara regions, as well as the Republic of Mordovia. The analysis of tourist activity is an integral element of the management of the tourism industry. It helps to make informed decisions, develop effective strategies and ensure the sustainable development of the industry. An integrated approach to analysis allows us to better understand the mechanisms of tourism functioning and create conditions for its long-term and harmonious development.

Keywords: indicator of tourist activity of the region’s population, forecast of tourist activity, statistical relationship of indicators in tourism, rating of regions, potential of the tourism industry.
