Abstract. In modern conditions of the development of military science and the emergence of new types of weapons, the formation of the readiness of future officers for research activities is of particular relevance. An analysis of theoretical sources on this issue (A.V. Baranov, A.A. Bazhutin, O.L. Karpova and others) and the actual practice of a military university in this aspect reveals the need to develop the essential concept of “cadets’ readiness for research activities”, taking into account the specifics of their future military service. The purpose of the article is to provide a scientific and theoretical substantiation of the essence and structure of the readiness of military university cadets for research activities. The paper uses the method of theoretical analysis, generalization of sources and pedagogical experience on the problem under study. The methodological basis of the research consists of systematic, activity-based, competence-based and personality-oriented approaches as the leading guidelines in choosing meaningful and practical activities at a military university for the research training of cadets in the context of their military professional activities. The results of the research can be used in the theory and practice of organizing research work of cadets, in the development of educational programs and methodological materials. The scientific novelty of the work is to determine the essence of the cadets’ readiness for research activities as the development of abilities and personal qualities for the application of methodological logic and culture in military professional activities. The originality of the proposed structure of readiness, which includes cognitive, technological, reflexive and axiological components, consists in their substantial content, taking into account the specifics of military training at the university. It is revealed that the readiness structure includes relevant knowledge of methodology, practical skills in modeling and designing research in the field of military science and practice, reflective abilities and value orientations that contribute to solving professional tasks at a higher level. The indicators of each component are determined, and the experience of the Ryazan Higher Airborne School named after V.F. Margelov in this aspect is shown. The necessity of creating scientific research centers and laboratories at military universities is substantiated. It is proved that the inclusion of elements of scientific research in educational activities contributes to the development of research skills of cadets. The results of the study form the basis for further development of diagnostic tools and methodological recommendations for organizing research activities in the military educational environment.

Keywords: research activities, military university cadets, professional training, methodological readiness, research competencies, military professional environment, pedagogical activities, research abilities, methodological logic, and professional development.
