Abstract. The article considers the role of supplemental education in the formation of the professional worldview of medical students. The relevance of the study is due to the need to train specialists who have not only medical skills, but also a conscious attitude to their profession in the modern world. The purpose of the article is to identify the pedagogical potential of medical translation course as a tool for developing the professional worldview of medical students. The methodological basis of the study is the contextual approach, which used the methods of analyzing scientific literature, pedagogical observation and questioning of two groups of students. The article presents a description of the structure and content of the course “Translator in the Field of Professional Communication”, implemented as part of supplemental education at the Ryazan State Medical University named after Academician I.P. Pavlov, as well as the results of a survey of 26 students who underwent education for two years. The results obtained allow us to conclude that the course contributes not only to the development of linguistic competence, but also to the formation of professional and value guidelines, such as a scientific approach, the importance of the role of English in medicine, broadening horizons and increasing motivation for self-development. According to the majority of students, such courses are a necessary element of their professional growth. The scientific novelty of the article lies in identifying the relationship between professional medical translation courses and the formation of students’ professional worldview, which has not previously received sufficient justification. The results of the work can be used in the development and implementation of supplemental education programs in medical universities, especially in areas related to professionally oriented study of foreign languages, as well as in improving the methods of education of medical students.
