Abstract. Today the Russian forestry sector at the area of digital, information technology introduction lags behind most other industries and complexes of the Russian industry and behind the level of digitalization of international forestry companies. According to experts, the current state of digitalization at the forestry complex is below average and worst of all at forestry. The purpose of the work is to develop proposals for the introduction of new educational and methodological materials that contribute to the formation of a sufficient level of general professional competencies in the field of information technology among students of forest profile. The article notes the insufficiency of the current level of mastering general professional competencies in the field of information technology among students of forest profile. Recommendations for the introduction of educational and methodological materials that contribute to the growth of these competencies are given. The presented materials have certain elements of scientific novelty. Such research methods as observation, study, generalization of the information obtained, comparative analysis were used. The main general professional competencies: OPK-1 and OPK-7, that form the level of training of students in the field of information technology are identified. At the forestry industry, there is also a constant complication of technologies due to their automation and optimization of individual operations, artificial intelligence is used to process large arrays of information. Therefore, at the new program, in addition to learning the work with the CAD system, it is proposed to study other types of information technologies necessary for future professional activity: GIS, GPS technologies, database management systems, technologies for processing graphic information, numerical data, their analysis. In this regard, it was proposed to increase the labor intensity of the discipline «Information technologies at professional activity» to at least five credit units, which would be enough for a more in-depth study, to expand the content of the work program with additional sections and topics necessary for future professional activities. The developed materials can be used in educational institutions of the forest profile of the higher education system.
