Abstract. The formation of media literacy among future specialists plays an important role in the higher school education system. The media literacy of a specialist, i.e. the ability to navigate the media sphere, be able to search for information in the media space, and have the ability to evaluate media information critically, takes an important part in the structure of professional culture. The purpose of the study is to analyze the essence of this quality and determine its role in shaping the pedagogical culture of future natural science specialists. The author considers the concepts of information and digital literacy as separate components of this quality. Information literacy is defined as the online search skills, the ability to organize, structure and reorganize media information, as well as interpret, analyze and evaluate the accuracy and reliability of scientific data.  Digital literacy of a specialist covers the range of competencies necessary for the effective use of digital technologies and resources in the professional field, such as working with a computer, professional programs and applications, and various multimedia. For a specialist in natural sciences, digital literacy means having the technical skills to work in digital laboratories.; the ability to work with various digital devices (computers, smartphones, tablets), the use of AI in their scientific work, blockchain, professional programs and applications, as well as the ability to use digital resources in the development of scientific literacy. As the empirical basis of the research, we have chosen the system of training natural science students at Ryazan State University named after S.A. Yesenin. We used the research methods such as the study of the domestic and foreign scholars and teachers experience, besides such methods as observation, conversation and discussion, as well as online questionnaires, online surveys, rankings, interviews, narrative essays as a pedagogical method, focus groups, testing. The significance of the work lies in clarifying the concept of media literacy of a specialist in natural sciences, in identifying the structural components of this quality, and in defining the skills and competencies that contribute to the development of this quality.

Keywords:  future specialist, natural sciences, information literacy, digital literacy, media literacy, media competences.
