Abstract. In the process of professional language training of a modern student, special attention should be paid to the formation of positive motivation to learn a foreign language due to changing socio-economic realities and a decrease in motivation against the background of the development of computer technology and artificial intelligence. In this regard, a teacher needs not only to have deep methodological knowledge, understand the theory of motives, master the principles of forming positive motivation among students, monitor the content of educational material, understand current trends in language education, improve teaching methods and technologies, but also clearly understand what prevents a particular student from achieving a higher academic result, what factors demotivate him and do not allow him to master the subject. The research is based on a personal activity approach and its purpose is to analyze the importance of demotivating factors in the process of professional language training of future medical specialists using the example of the discipline “Foreign Language” (English) and identify possible ways to increase students’ motivation to learn a foreign language. In the course of the research, theoretical analysis, synthesis, identification of systemic patterns on the issue under study, as well as empirical analysis of demotivating factors for learning a foreign language among students of the I.P. Pavlov Ryazan State Medical University, questionnaires and analysis of the data obtained, pedagogical observation and analysis of teaching experience were applied. It has been proven that the main demotivating factors for medical university students when learning English are increased academic workload, shifting priorities to clinical disciplines, and the availability of electronic assistants. The theoretical significance lies in highlighting the conditions of the formation of students’ positive motivation. The practical significance is expressed in the designation of effective language training technologies aimed at the modern student.

Keywords: motivation to learn a foreign language, medical university students, personal activity approach, professional language training.
