Abstract. Modernization of higher education in the context of active development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies requires transformation of curricula to develop students’ competencies in the field of AI and prepare them for work in the digital environment of the future. Key characteristics of artificial intelligence that determine the need for transformation of the content of disciplines are the universality of AI solutions, high efficiency of their use, openness of development tools, growing demand for big data analysis, modernization of the technical base, increasing scientific and technical potential and growing public interest in AI technologies. The phased introduction of innovative components into existing educational programs, starting with disciplines that directly correlate with AI technologies, such as Computer Science and Information Technology, is the most appropriate solution at the first stage. It is assumed that the synthesis of classical topics and new modules will contribute to the development of professional competencies in the field of AI and ensure effective training of specialists for work in the conditions of digital transformation of the economy and social sphere. The article contains a description of a conceptual model for integrating the Artificial Intelligence module into the fundamental computer science course for universities. The proposed model is advisory in nature and can be adapted to the specifics of various training areas: from the humanities to IT areas. The paper presents the structure of the proposed educational module, including sections on the basics of AI, generative models, knowledge engineering, machine learning, expert systems, natural language processing and computer vision. Particular attention is paid to the modular approach to organizing the educational material and its adaptation to various training areas. The need to develop a holistic understanding of AI technologies as a modern tool and its applied potential in professional activities is emphasized.

Keywords: artificial intelligence, modernization of education, professional competencies, computer science.
