Abstract. Child rearing is one of the key tasks facing society. The further development of the state and its well-being largely depend on the values and attitudes that are formed in the younger generation. In this regard, the problem of interaction between school and family in matters of child rearing is of particular relevance. One of the key aspects of interaction between school and family in child rearing is the joint definition of goals, objectives and expected results of educational work. School and family should develop a unified strategy based on common value guidelines and approaches to education. This will ensure the integrity and continuity of the educational process, avoid contradictions and discrepancies in the impact on the child. An important condition for effective interaction between school and family is also ensuring their close coordination and regular exchange of information. Teachers should systematically inform parents about the child’s successes and problems in their studies, their behavior, and the peculiarities of personal development. In turn, parents are called upon to share information with teachers about the family situation, current needs and interests of the child. This exchange of information allows us to build a holistic picture of the child’s development and coordinate the actions of the school and family. The article examines some features of the interaction between school and family in the USSR in the 70-80-ies of the twentieth century. The importance of the pedagogical press for the organization of this interaction is noted. The content of the leading periodical pedagogical publications of the period under review on the organization of school and family interaction is analyzed. The experience of organizing school-family interaction through the work of parent universities and lecture halls, holding parent conferences and round tables, and equipping parent classrooms in schools is described. The approximate content of educational education programs for parents of schoolchildren in the framework of parental universal education is considered.
